CLEAN ENERGY JOBS COALITION STATEMENT ON GOVernor HOCHUL's STATE OF THE STATE Address

DATE: January 10, 2023

In reply to New York State Governor Kathy Hochul’s “State of the State” address and policy proposals, the Clean Energy Jobs Coalition-NY, a coalition of labor and management leaders representing more than 270,000 skilled energy workers across New York State with the mission to be a sensible voice advocating on key energy issues, released the following statement:

“We support the Governor’s and State Legislature’s efforts to decarbonize New York and pave the way to a cleaner environment. With massive construction of new housing, as well as the electrification of everything from heating and cooling systems, to vehicles and cars will come a need for far more sources of reliable, 24/7 electric generation.

Building reliable, new electric supply must go beyond wind and solar to include nuclear, utility thermal systems and hydrogen, which can operate regardless of weather conditions.

We are pleased that Governor Hochul and the legislature are looking to upgrade state university campuses and government office buildings with utility thermal heating and cooling systems. These projects will provide training opportunities for quality, good paying jobs that will also help save the environment.

This is the type of leadership needed to sustain the middle class and win the clean energy future.
