Unions, Environmentalists, Utilities Push Geothermal

An article recently posted by Politico Pro "Unions, Environmentalists, Utilities Push Geothermal District Heating Measure" by Marie French highlighted S9422/A10493, which was passed at the very end of the New York Legislative session. The bill specifically authorizes gas, electric and combined utilities to provide thermal heating services to customers.

The bill itself is the result of collaboration between environmental groups and labor. It came out of discussions between the Building Decarbonization Coalition’s Lisa Dix, John Murphy (a Clean Energy Jobs Coalition Member) with the International Representative of the United Association of Plumbers, Pipefitters and Sprinkler Fitters and Alliance for a Green Economy’s Jessica Azulay.

Within the article Murphy states "The writing is on the wall and there’s a time when we’ll be off fossil fuels. The most important thing is to make sure we have stability on the grid while we put in a replacement.”
